Petition Season Is Underway
Although the presidential election has only been over for a few months, it is time for the local election process to begin. Democrats running for county legislator, mayor, and aldermen are passing "designating petitions" to appear on our party's primary ballot. Each candidate must collect a set number of signatures, which varies depending on the office and district. Completed petitions are due to the Steuben County Board of Elections between March 31 and April 3.
The Hornell Democratic Committee is working hard to recruit candidates for every race. We are gratified that so many ordinary citizens have already stepped forward to serve their community.
All ten alderman seats on the city council are up for election. The City of Hornell has ten wards, and an alderman represents each ward. We have drafted candidates in most wards but are still looking to fill a couple more.
We invite registered Democrats interested in running for city council to reach out to John Bradley, the chair of Hornell Democrats, immediately so that they have time to gather signatures before the deadline. He will happily provide you with a petition packet. The Hornell Democratic Committee is ready to support you throughout the election cycle.
